Phuket Island is truly the nightlife capital of Asia if not the world. It certainly seems that there are an almost unaccountable number of bars spread across the island. Entertainment districts can be found in all the major beaches, and in Phuket town. In many places, there are several nightlife districts or the one district seems to continue for quite a distance.

Clubs have traditionally remained open until sunrise but in recent years have often had to close at 1:00 or 2:00AM due to the government. The closing rules, however, are often not enforced. Most clubs have no cover charges, but some of the larger ones and many discotheques do have entrance charges, although a drink or two is usually included in the admission price. Those visiting clubs should be prepared to pay around 100 baht a beer although they might be a good bit more in a disco or dinner restaurant.

Nightlife on Phuket Island on Various Beaches

Phuket Island is truly the nightlife capital of Asia if not the world. It certainly seems that there are an almost unccountable number of bars spread across the island. Entertainment districts can be found in all the major beaches, and in Phuket town. In many places, there are several nightlife districts or the one district seems to continue for quite a distance.

Most bars are rather small, having around 15 or so stools for customers, but some are quite large, and there are a few large discotheques on the island as well as go-go bars, which are bars where ladies dance on stage or on podiums wearing a minimum amount of clothing.

There are many restaurants which seem to be “high class” bars, and there are several “entertainment complexes” on the island where a large number of bars and restaurants are operated by a single manager and often have a theme.

Almost all bars are attended by young ladies anxious to meet men.

The majority are employed by the clubs to entertain – chat, play board games, serve, etc. -  but will accompany men out of the club if the men pay the clubs a “bar fine,” which varies in size but is usually no more than a few hundred baht.

A fairly large number of ladies go to clubs “freelantz” and come and go with whoever they want, although this usually happens in the larger clubs.

 Among the places on Phuket Island with a thriving or at least a nice nightlife are: Patong Beach, Karon Beach, Kata Beach, Rawai Beach,  Chalong Bay,  Phuket town, Bang Tao Beach, and Kamala Beach.

There are some very nice beaches in the northwestern part of the island, such as Ni Yang Beach and Nai Thon Beach, but they have very little nightlife.
