Old Phuket Town, Thailand

In recent years, the older part of Phuket town has become an important tourist destination.

In large part, this is due to its architecture. Many older Chinese, Malaysian and European buildings have been preserved and are still in use.

This area remains a collection of small shops aimed at the local population rather than the tourist and people from all over the island come to enjoy the excellent and inexpensive Chinese and Thai restaurants. Furthermore, several nice bars and nightclubs, many featuring live music, are located in the area. At night, there are also a couple of large open air markets to browse in. The fishing port is very much a working fishing port, with the boats going out to the Phi Phi islands leaving from the marine centre.
